Welcome to the Leitrim Way

"The Journey Starts Here"

About the Trail

The Leitrim Way is a 56km walking trail that showcases the stunning natural beauty of County Leitrim, Ireland. This scenic route offers walkers an immersive experience through some of Ireland's most captivating landscapes, combining pristine waterways, rolling hills, and charming villages.

The route starts in Leitrim Village and continues on to Drumshanbo, where the Beara Breifne Way follows the trail along the east side of Lough Allen for 15km until the route links with the Cavan Way at Dowra.

Along this section of the Leitrim Way, walkers have great views of Lough Allen, Sleeve Anierin, and the Corr mountains. At Dowra, the Leitrim Way "ends for now" - though a further path has been extended from Dowra to Manorhamilton via Glenfarne and Coolegraine. This is not on the path of the Beara Breifne Way, but full details are still awaited.

The Beara-Breifne Way goes northeast and follows the Cavan Way to Blacklion, creating an extended network of walking routes that span across Ireland's midlands and northwest regions.

About the Trail

Part of the Beara-Breifne Way

The Leitrim Way forms an integral section of the Beara-Breifne Way, a long-distance walking trail that spans 500km from Beara Peninsula in West Cork to Blacklion in County Cavan. This remarkable route follows the historic path of the O'Sullivan Beare march of 1603, connecting diverse landscapes and communities across Ireland.

As part of this larger network, the Leitrim Way contributes its own unique character - showcasing the tranquil beauty of Lough Allen, the dramatic Corr mountains, and the warm hospitality of County Leitrim's villages.
